Singing OUT! is a very special group. We are an LGBT community mixed chorus (SATB)
that meets together weekly to sing our stories with pride.
We are a non-auditioned choir and you do not have to sing alone in front of the
group unless you want to try out for a solo, but you may be asked to sing privately
or in a small group for our director to see what section (soprano, alto, tenor,
bass) best fits your vocal range. We work hard to achieve the best choral sound
we can, learning and growing musically as we prepare for each concert. The men and
women of this chorus are vibrant and strong, with a united spirit that rings out
through every note we sing. We are a wonderful family that sings, socializes, performs
and laughs together.
Our season runs from September to June each year. Concert preparations will start
in September after our summer break and again in January after our holiday concert
and a short break. You are welcome to come and see what we are all about without
any commitment. You don't have to join at the beginning of a season, but it’s certainly
easier, since everybody is learning the new music together. If you want to join
part way through a season, you can still come check us out for a couple of weeks
first to see if it’s a good fit. You may even be able to sing with us for the upcoming
concert if you’ve officially joined and are prepared (the artistic director would
help you make that decision.) If you are not ready to sing, we would be delighted
if you would help at the performance in some other way.
We are member and community supported chorus and our current membership fee is $25
per month, however we do not turn any new members away who have an issue paying
the fees. If the fees are too high for your situation, you may apply to the board
for a "pay what you can" option. Cases are assessed on an individual basis. You
may also take advantage of our discounts by making one payment of $250 (in September)
or two payments of $125 (September and January). Fees are prorated for new members
wishing to join after the season begins.
If you decide to check us out, we would love to see you! Rehearsals are every Tuesday
from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Riverdale Presbyterian Church, 662 Pape Avenue,
just south of the Danforth on the west side of Pape, (use north side door and go
down stairs) only one and a half blocks from the Pape subway station [
map].
Our style of music varies every season. To name a few, we sing folk, pop, Broadway,
LBGT, spiritual, classical and everything in between! You are sure to find lots
of music that you enjoy.
Even if you don't sing, you can be a part of this friendly, exciting community organization
as a non-singing volunteer. There are many opportunities to learn new skills and
meet some great people.
Due to media coverage of our performances, all members of Singing OUT! must be prepared
to be publicly identified as a member of an LGBT chorus.
