Patrick Huang
Artistic Director

Patrick remembers the day when he said, "Mom, I wanna join the Boyscouts", but his school teacher didn't think he was cub material and put him in the choir instead, and a life of music began.

Even though Patrick wanted to become a doctor as he got older - playing it just wasn't enough - music and languages were always his real passions.  By the time he finished high school, he had trained his school choirs for numerous competitions and concerts, and had conducted his church choir on occasion in his native Hong Kong.

After studying in Wales at an international school for two years, where he continued singing and conducting, Patrick came to Canada to study German and Italian at the University of Toronto, and subsequently also obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance.

He was very active in the music scene and sang with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Tafelmusik Chamber Choir, The Elmer Iseler Singers, as well as at various churches.

In 1998, Patrick went to London to pursue a Masters of Music degree at the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied voice with Ian Partridge.  During this time he was engaged as a soloist and chorister in many performances, recordings and tours.

Since his return to Canada in 2002, Patrick has been teaching English as a foreign language to adults.  He continues to study voice with Lorna MacDonald.

Patrick's collection of Le Petit Prince in various translations - 25 to date - grows slowly but steadily.  He enjoys what he calls his 'sanity time' at brunches with the weekend paper, a good book or with friends.

PRIDE • MUSIC • BELONGING
We promote pride, both in who we are and in musical excellence to the communities where we live, perform, and find mutual support.
Within the choir, we shall foster a positive image of our common goals of belonging, unity, and empowerment: a reflection of our lives.
