William Bellonio

William Belonio
Accompanist

William was born into a musical family in the Philippines, where music was always an important part of his make-up. After singing musical duets with his twin brother, his parents then encouraged him to take lessons in piano. After seeing him flourish on the piano, his father then dreamed that one day his son would accompany his choir in Canada. At the age of 9, he had his first accompanying gig playing the Bach Cantata No. 147, Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring.

During his formative years, William studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music with Marianna Melkis & Lydia Williams. During the next twenty years, William gleaned his musical prowess by becoming an active accompanist in the Toronto and Minneapolis/St. Paul region for choruses and soloists alike. He has served as the principle accompanist with IRIS, the women’s chorus of Toronto, OutLoud ensemble of the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus and Sounds of Harmony Mixed Chorus in St Paul, MN. In addition, he also performed at the Canadian GALA Choruses Festival in Edmonton, Alberta 1998 and in Toronto 2002 with the Festival Choirs. While in Minneapolis, he continued his musical studies at the MacPhail Center for Music with Gary Sipes and taught piano privately. Apart from playing on the keyboard, William also sang with Forte, The Toronto Men’s Chorus and with the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus of Minneapolis.

Since he has returned to Canada, William has been fortunate enough to continue his role with Singing OUT! as their “88fingers”, which will make this his 11th season with them. In an effort to accelerate his musical resume, William has resumed his studies at the RCM to complete his ARCT under the direction of Jenny Regehr in hopes of shifting from his career in Interior Design to a full-time career as a teacher of music.

PRIDE • MUSIC • BELONGING
We promote pride, both in who we are and in musical excellence to the communities where we live, perform, and find mutual support.
Within the choir, we shall foster a positive image of our common goals of belonging, unity, and empowerment: a reflection of our lives.
